Select Creatives

You can access Criteo proprietary Commerce Display ads and standard Display Banner Ads as part of the Retail Media Platform OnSite Display.

Both Commerce Display and Display Banner ads feature a Creative. For Commerce Display ads only, a product listing(s) is used in conjunction with the Creative, as well as retailer native features such as add to cart and product availability.

  • Creative: a JPG, PNG or GIF image that can include a brand logo, product pack shots and brand image, as well as a call-to-action and sometimes legal information. You can build your creative in the Creative section of the Shared Library.

  • Product listing (Commerce Display ads only): a native product listing that is pulled directly from the retailer's product feed. The product listing is the set of selected products that will display alongside the banner. You can arrange your product listing in step 4 of your line item workflow.

Select a Creative

A line item can be submitted for review without a creative.

Type in the file name of the creative you wish to associate to the line item.

Only creatives that meet the following criteria will display in the dropdown:

  • Built in the Creative Library

  • Available based on the selected retailer and page type

Creative Details

After the creative is selected, you can review the Creative Details to ensure you have selected the creative you want to associate.

Product Listings (Commerce Display Ads Only)

You can choose which products you want to display next to the creative in an ad and the order in which those products will display.

To assign a product to a creative, you can select a product in the Featured Products dropdown. The products available in the dropdown are the same product(s) that you selected in step 2 of setting up a line item.

Add a Product Listing

Commerce Display ads can have one or many product listings. Click the +Product Listing button to add a product listing. For each product listing you create, you will select at least one product to display in your ad. You can also order product listings by rank, add one or more backup products per product (optional but recommended), and mark the optional Mandatory checkbox.

The ability to add backup products depends on the ad format you have chosen. If your ad format supports backup products, you can click +Backup Product to provide a backup product that will serve if the original product you selected is out of stock.

Mark as Mandatory

Mandatory Checkbox

You can choose whether to mark a product listing as Mandatory or not.

Marked Mandatory

If the product listing is marked Mandatory, the ad will serve if at least one of its products (original or backup) is in stock. If all products are out of stock, the ad will not serve.

  • There are 3 product listings, each with one original product and one backup product.

  • The user marks the Product Listing 1 as mandatory because they don’t want the ad to show if Product 1.1 or Product 1.2 are out of stock.

  • They launch their campaign. After a few days, Product 1.1 is out of stock.

  • Thanks to the backup product that the user set up, the Flagship will keep serving with Product 1.2 in slot 1 until Product 1.1 is back in stock.

  • Victims of their own success, Products 1.1 and 1.2 are now out of stock! The Flagship ad stops serving as Product Listing 1 was marked as mandatory.

Not Marked as Mandatory

NOT marked Mandatory

If the product listing is not marked Mandatory, the ad will serve if the minimum number of product listings is met and any of the products for that product listing (including backup products) are in stock.

If all the products in a non-mandatory product listing are out of stock, that product listing will not display in the ad. Instead, the product listing next in line according to rank will take its place in the ad.

  • There are 3 product listings, each with one original product and one backup product. None of the product listings are marked as mandatory.

  • The user launches their campaign, with Product 1.1 serving in slot 1, Product 2.1 in slot 2, and Product 3.1 in slot 3.

  • After a few days, Product 1.1 is out of stock.

  • Thanks to the backup product that the user set up, the Flagship will keep serving with Product 1.2 in slot 1 until Product 1.1 is back in stock.

  • Victims of their own success, Products 1.1 and 1.2 are now out of stock! Thankfully, the Flagship ad will keep serving, simply replacing Product 1.2 with Product 2.1 in slot 1, until the products in product listing 1 are back in stock.

Backup Products

Some Commerce Display formats allow for multiple products to appear in the ad. Depending on the selected ad format, you can set up multiple backup products per product listing.

Example of backups per product (Recommended):

This is a Showcase ad. In this example, the Showcase needs a minimum of 3 products to serve. Each slot contains one product listing.

  • The user set up the product listings to the left and products in Step 4 of setting up a line item.

  • There are 3 product listings. Product 1.2 is a backup product in product listing 1. Product 2.2 is a backup product in product listing 2. Product 3.2 is a backup product in product listing 3.

  • Product 1.1, Product 2.1, and Product 3.1 are in stock. The Showcase ad serves each product in the appropriate slot according to the product listing rank that the user set up.

  • Product 1.1 is now out of stock. Thanks to the backup product that the user set up, the Showcase will keep serving with Product 1.2 in slot 1 until Product 1.1 is back in stock. Product 2.1 will still serve in slot 2, and Product 3.1 in slot 3.

  • Victims of their own success, Products 1.1 and 1.2 are now out of stock! The Showcase ad stops serving, as it needs a minimum of 3 products to run. Once products 1.1 or 1.2 are back in stock, the ad will start serving again.

No Backup Products

If you don’t add backup products, we recommend that you set up at minimum an additional product listing to ensure that there is always a product in stock to serve.

Example of how to add one backup product:

This is a Showcase ad. In this example, this Showcase ad needs a minimum of 3 products to serve. Each slot contains one product listing.

  • The user sets up the following product listings and products in Step 4 of setting up a line item.

  • In this example, the minimum number of product listings required is 3. In that case, we recommend that at least 4 product listings are set up if there are no backup products.

  • Product 1, Product 2, and Product 3 are in stock. The Showcase ad serves in the page, each product in the appropriate slot according to the product listing rank that the user set up.

  • Product 1 is now out of stock. Because the user set up a fourth product listing, the Showcase will keep serving: Product 2 will display in slot 1, Product 3 in slot 2, and Product 4 in slot 3, until Product 1 is back in stock.

  • If the user had not set up the additional product listing, the Showcase ad would have stopped serving.
