Create an Onsite Display Campaign

A campaign is the container for your Onsite Display activity. It holds your campaign name, attribution settings, frequency cap, and one or more line items. The line items inside it set the retailer, pages, products, creative, and targeting.

Before you start, you need a balance appended to the campaign before it can spend. Your Criteo representative sets this up from your signed insertion order.

Start a New Campaign

  1. Go to the Campaigns section. Existing campaigns appear in the graph and table on the dashboard.

  2. Click +Campaign.

  3. Choose your Budget type.

  4. Select Onsite, then Onsite Display, then Onsite Display under Campaign Type.

Choose Your Buy Type

Onsite Display has three buy types available. Choose the one that matches how you want to buy and target.

How it works

Pricing

Auction

Bid in real time to win placements. You compete in a first-price auction, so the highest bid wins the impression and pays what it bid. You can run several page types and creative formats in one line item and set a custom bid per page type.

CPM

Preferred Deals

Target a specific audience. Your ads appear to those shoppers on retailer sites or apps that match your targeting, alongside other brands' ads, if the retailer approves.

CPM

Sponsorship

Take over a specific retailer page for a set period. Your ads show to 100% of shoppers who visit that page, so there is no audience targeting.

Name Your Campaign

Your campaign name is visible only to you, in the Campaigns and Analytics sections. It never appears in your ads, and shoppers and other accounts never see it.

We recommend a name you will recognize in a report months from now. A format such as Product_Retailer_Month_Year works well.

Map to a Balance

A balance is what funds your campaign. Select an available balance from the Balance table, and use the search bar if needed.

A campaign can be mapped to more than one balance, and one balance can fund several campaigns.

If no balance is available to select, your signed insertion order funds have not been added yet. Contact your Criteo representative.

Choose Your Attribution Settings

Attribution decides which sales are credited to your ads, and therefore what your reported performance looks like. Set it to match your campaign's goal.

Each setting has two parts:

  • The lookback window is the eligible period between an ad event and a sale.

  • The product match is how closely the purchased product must relate to the advertised one.

  • 30 days

  • Same product, same category, same brand

  • 30 days

  • Same product

  • Same product, same category (Default)

We recommend starting with the attribution window you already use on other platforms, so you compare performance evenly. Once you have more campaigns running, you can change the model and see the effect.

You can change attribution after launch. Expect up to a 2-hour delay before reporting reflects the new settings, and the change applies retroactively across the whole campaign. To learn more, please see About Attribution.

Set Advanced Options

Two optional settings sit under advanced settings.

  • A/B testing. You can measure performance between shoppers exposed to your campaign and shoppers who were not. This is set up by your Criteo team, so contact your Criteo representative to arrange it.

  • Frequency capping. Limit how many impressions a single shopper sees.

    • Enter the maximum impressions per shopper. Valid entries are 1 to 20.

    • Choose the interval: Day: a 24-hour period. Session: ends after 30 minutes of shopper inactivity.

Add Your Line Items

A campaign with no line items does not deliver. Once your campaign settings are saved, create at least one line item to choose the retailer, pages, products, creative, and bid.
