What You Can and Cannot Change After Launch
Most of a line item can be changed at any time, and changes take effect immediately. The exceptions are listed below.
Cannot be changed once the line item has launched:
Locked | What to do instead |
|---|---|
Retailer | Create a new line item for the other retailer |
Keyword targeting strategy | Create a new line item, or duplicate this one and make changes to the strategy during setup |
Bid strategy, from the editing workflow | It can be changed, but only from the Bid Strategy column on the Line Items dashboard. Please see Change Your Bid and Optimization Model |
Can be changed at any time: name, flight dates, budget, daily and monthly budget settings, ad schedule, bid, optimization model, products, negative keywords, and submitted keywords.
Where to Edit a Line Item
First, navigate to your line items. When you open Criteo Commerce Max, you land on the Campaign Management dashboard, which lists your campaigns in a table. Click a campaign's name to open it, and you arrive at the Line Items dashboard, a table of every line item in that campaign.
From there, you have two routes to the same settings. Which one to use depends on whether you are changing one field or several.
To change one field quickly, use in-line editing:
Click the campaign's name on the Campaign Management dashboard.
On the Line Items dashboard, click the pencil icon next to the input in the column you want to change: Name, Budget, Daily Budget, Bid Strategy, start or end date, and so on.
Enter the new value and save.
This is the fastest route, and for Bid Strategy it is the only route.

To review or change several settings, use the editing workflow:
On the Line Items dashboard, click the line item's name. This opens that line item's own page.
Click Edit at the top right of the screen to enter the five-step editing workflow.

Change the Name, Retailer, or Dates
Name: Click the pencil icon in the Line Item column, or open the line item and click Edit at the top right to reach Settings.
Retailer: You cannot change it. In Step 1 of the editing workflow the retailer is shown, and the field beneath it is grayed out. To advertise the same products with a different retailer, create a new line item.
Dates: Click the pencil icon next to the line item dates, or change them in Step 1 of the workflow.
Start date: today, or any date in the future.
End date: None, or a specific date.
Click Save before exiting.
To change dates on several line items at once, please see Change Bids in Bulk. The same bulk selection handles flight dates and the on/off toggle.
Change Targeting Based on Tracking Preference
If your line item's retailer has this feature enabled, Step 1 of the editing workflow shows a Targeting Based on Tracking Preference section. You can change it at any time.
The two options:
Opted-in shoppers only: the default.
Both opted-in and opted-out shoppers.
If you change this setting mid-flight, expect a change in your reported performance. We recommend recording the date you made the change.
Change a Line Item Budget
You can change a line item budget at any time, and the change takes effect immediately.
On the Campaigns page, click the campaign holding the line item.
On the Line Items dashboard, click the line item's name.
Click the Edit icon in the Remaining Budget column, or change it in Step 1 of the editing workflow.
Your two options:
Uncapped. The line item spends freely from the funds available at campaign level. It stops when the campaign budget is reached, and its status changes to Budget Hit.
Capped. The line item stops delivering when it reaches the amount you set. It may not reach it. The amount is a ceiling, not a target.
You are editing the remaining budget, not the total
When you edit a capped budget you choose Increase By or Decrease By, and the amount you enter is added to or removed from the remaining budget, not from the original total.
Worked example. Your line item budget is $700 and it has spent $350, so $350 remains. You want the line item to be able to spend $1,000 in total. Add $300:
$350 already spent + $650 remaining = $1,000 total.
Select the New Remaining Budget checkbox to confirm the figure is what you intended before saving.
Change Your Daily or Monthly Budget
Your Daily Budget and Monthly Budget settings control how quickly a budget is spent. Click the Edit icon in the Daily Budget or Monthly Budget column, or change them in Step 1: Settings of the editing workflow.
Daily Budget has three options:
Fixed. Enter a figure and it becomes a daily cap. Each day the line item stops serving and switches to Budget Hit when it reaches that amount, then reactivates at the start of the next day if funds remain.
Automated (Recommended). Your daily budget is recalculated at the start of each day from the end date and the remaining budget. To enable it, the line item needs an end date and either a capped total budget or a fixed monthly budget.
None. No daily limit. The line item spends as fast as it can win auctions.
Monthly Budget has two options: Fixed and None. Select Fixed and enter an amount, and it becomes a monthly cap. The line item stops serving and switches to Budget Hit when it reaches that amount, then reactivates at the start of the next month if funds remain. Click Continue or Save before exiting.
Change Your Keyword Targeting
However, you can still change your negative and submitted keywords. In the Additional Keywords section on the same step, add or remove either.
To add submitted keywords from the left panel instead:
Click the line item's name and select Keywords from the left panel.
Click the Keywords button in the top right.
Enter your keywords and click Submit.
Negative keywords apply within a few minutes of saving.
To learn more, please see Exclude Keywords With Negative Keyword Targeting for match types and the full set of rules, and Reach Competitor Shoppers With Search Conquesting for why the strategy is locked.
Add or Remove Products
Products can be changed on a live line item at any time.
To see and manage products across the whole campaign, click Campaign Products in the left panel of the campaign page. For each product you can see which retailers it is linked to, its performance, and the bid being used, or a bid range where the product sits in more than one line item.
To manage one product's line items: click the number in the Line Items column for that product. From there you can turn it on or off across all retailers at once or per retailer, and update its bid across all retailers in one go.
To add products to existing line items:
On the Campaign Products page, click +Add Multiple Products.
Choose how to find them:
- Search Account Catalog: search by keyword. Every product with a matching word in its name is returned.
- Search by Product ID: select the identifier type, then enter IDs one per line. Exact matches are returned, and you are told which IDs do not exist.Select the products and click Next.
Review the line items and retailers shown. Click the number in the Products column to check the selection and availability, and update bids across retailers if needed.
Click Next. Each product is placed automatically into the line items whose retailers carry it.
Pause a Product
Pausing stops your ads for one product without changing anything else. Turning it back on resumes delivery, as long as the product is in stock.
At campaign level:
On the campaign page, click Campaign Products in the left panel.
Click the On/Off toggle next to any product.
At line item level:
From the campaign page, select the line item.
Click Details in the View column.
On the products page, click the On/Off toggle next to each product.
Change Your Bid and Optimization Model
Your bid amount and your bid strategy are set in two different columns on the Line Items dashboard.
To change your bid amount: on the Line Items dashboard, hover over the Bid (CPC) column and click the Edit icon to the right of the existing bid. Enter the new amount.
To change your bid strategy (Standard or Adaptive CPC), click the Edit icon next to the input in the Bid Strategy column. This opens the Bid Strategy Settings panel.
The suggested bid range and the minimum bid both appear in the Bid Strategy Settings panel once the line item is live, based on the auctions your line item has competed in. To learn more, please see Choose a Bidding Strategy for Sponsored Products.
To change your optimization model: click the Edit icon next to the line item's optimization in the Optimization column, or change it in Step 4: Bid of the editing workflow. Select the new optimizer in the Optimization box. You can switch between Clicks, Conversions, and Revenue.
The optimizer can be changed in the workflow or from the table. The bid strategy can only be changed from the table.
A model change starts a fresh learning period. To learn more, please see Choose an Optimization Model for Sponsored Products.
Change Bids in Bulk
You can change bids, flight dates, and on/off status for many line items at once.
On the Line Items dashboard, select the checkbox next to each line item's ON/OFF toggle. To select all of them, select the checkbox in the header row above the Total row.
A count of selected line items appears above the header row, with an Edit option. Click Edit.
Choose what to change: turn the line items on or off, edit start and end dates, or edit bids.
For bids, choose how to adjust them:
- By a set amount: every selected line item gets the same bid.
- By percentage: each bid moves by the same proportion. A $1 bid increased by 20% becomes $1.20.Review the Original and New Bids columns, then click Save.
The same option works the same way for product bid overrides. To learn more, please see Adjust Your Sponsored Products Bids.
Review and Launch Your Changes
Review is the last step of the editing workflow. Check your changes, then click Launch. Your changes are not live until you do. This is the most common reason an edit appears not to have worked.
Line Item Status
A line item's status comes from its configuration plus the Off/On toggle in the line item table on the campaign page.
To check it: click Campaigns, click the campaign name, and read the status beside each line item.
A status can change because:
The line item has been completed and saved.
Its start or end date has been reached.
Its daily or monthly budget has been reached.
The Off/On toggle was switched manually.
It has been inactive for the past 30 days.
Duplicate a Line Item
Duplicating copies every setting from an existing line item so you can adjust the copy rather than start over.
On the Campaigns dashboard, select the campaign holding the line item.
In the Actions column, click the … icon at the far right of the line item.
Click Duplicate. A new line item is created with the same settings.
Update the name and flight dates. They must stay inside the campaign's date range.
The duplicate appears in draft status, ready for edits.
Work through the workflow to Review, then click Launch.
